Meet Caravaggio: The Skeleton Who Stole the Show at Trove Arts
When we first put together an animatronic skeleton for one of our Halloween-themed events, we thought it would be a fun, one-time prop—something to add a little atmosphere to our unique art
studio in Milwaukee. We never expected it to become a star. But then again, we didn’t know we were about to unleash Caravaggio on the world.
Who Is Caravaggio?
Caravaggio isn’t just any skeleton. He’s named after the famously temperamental Italian artist, and we’ve given him a personality to match. Picture a charmingly arrogant, hot-tempered artist who’s never without his trusty sword—and now imagine that artist as a skeleton, brought back to life (or un-life, maybe?) with a few servos, some microcontrollers, and a lot of attitude.
Originally, we figured Caravaggio would be a one-off appearance, a bit of spooky fun to fit the Halloween vibe. But from the moment he started clattering around, pointing out art with a bony finger, and getting into playful arguments with guests, it was clear he was something special. People loved him. They didn’t just want to see him once—they wanted him back, again and again.
Bringing a Skeleton to Life
So, how did we turn a plastic Halloween decoration into a character that everyone seems to
adore? It didn’t take much—a few servos here, a microcontroller there, and suddenly, Caravaggio was moving, gesturing, and even getting a bit too heated about the finer points of Baroque art.
But it’s not just about the tech. It’s the way Caravaggio fits into the Trove Arts experience. When he’s around, you’re not just attending an event—you’re stepping into a world where art comes alive. Whether you're joining a paint and sip session or taking one of our interactive art lessons, Caravaggio helps blur the line between the past and the present, making it easy to forget that he’s just a skeleton with some cleverly hidden wires.
Why Caravaggio Keeps Coming Back
There’s something magical about a skeleton who thinks he’s the greatest artist ever, and isn’t shy about letting you know it. Caravaggio brings an element of surprise and fun to our events that’s hard to replicate. He’s not just a prop—he’s a character, with a personality that keeps people
talking long after the event is over.
Whether he’s leading a group on a chaotic art tour, picking a playful fight with a guest, or just
sulking in the corner because no one appreciates his “genius,” Caravaggio adds a layer of interaction that makes every event a little more memorable. He’s a reminder that art doesn’t have to be serious to be meaningful, and that sometimes, a touch of humor can make the past feel alive in a whole new way.
Caravaggio and Edgar: A Comedy Duo for the Ages
As if Caravaggio wasn’t captivating enough on his own, we’ve paired him up with his steampunk animatronic raven friend, Edgar. Together, they form a classic vaudeville-style comedy duo that can easily call to mind iconic pairs like Stan and Olly, Laurel and Hardy, or even C-3PO and R2-D2.
Edgar’s dry wit perfectly complements Caravaggio’s fiery temperament, making them a hit at every event. Whether they’re bantering back and forth, plotting some mischief, or delivering a comedy
routine, this dynamic duo never fails to entertain.
As we keep hosting unique events in Milwaukee, you can bet Caravaggio—and Edgar—will be there, ready to stir up some trouble and charm their way into more hearts. They’ve become a bit of a legend around here—a reminder that sometimes, the simplest ideas can have the biggest impact.
So if you’re heading to a Trove Arts event, keep an eye out for our favorite hot-tempered skeleton and his sharp-witted raven sidekick. What started as a quirky, one-time appearance has become a mainstay of our gatherings—a reminder that with a little creativity, even the most ordinary things can take on extraordinary lives of their own. Plus, don’t forget to sign up for one of our art lessons or join us for a fun paint and sip session while you’re here!
